About CEA

The Cambodian Economic Association (CEA) was born from a collective initiative of Cambodian professionals and intellectuals involved in Cambodian economic research and development.

After the minimum institutional infrastructure was set up, CEA was officially launched on 05/05/05 at the Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia. CEA launch was welcomed by hundreds of participants from academia, development partners, policymakers, civil society, private sector, and university students.
Prior to the official launch, CEA was admitted as a member of the Federation of the ASEAN Economic Associations (FAEA) and has sent delegates to participate in the annual conference of the FAEA since 2003.

In 2009, CEA took turn to successfully organized and hosted in cooperation with the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) the 34th Annual Conference of FAEA, with financial support from IDRC, UNDP, and EIC.

Vision

Registered as an independent, not-for-profit, non-government organization, or a professional society, CEA aims to promote economic science and its application to Cambodia and Cambodia will achieve equitable and sustainable development.

Mission

To contribute to Cambodia’s development through publications and dissemination of studies and research, encouraging debates, and provision of policy recommendations on socio-economic issues.

Goal

To contribute to alleviating poverty and raising the living standards of Cambodians The Association has the following purposes:

  • Promote the study of economic science and its application in Cambodia.
  • Encourage exchanges of information, knowledge, and experiences among its members in order to strengthen the capacity of economists and development practitioners concerned with the Cambodian economy.
  • Increase research on Cambodian economic issues.
  • Disseminate findings from studies, research, analysis, and discourses on the Cambodian economy.

 

Activities

Main activities of the Association are as follows:

  • Conduct research to identify policy options to develop the Cambodian economy.
  • Organize seminars, conferences, roundtable discussions, and public forums on issues related to the development of the Cambodian economy.
  • Publish research findings and meeting results as decided by the Executive Committee
  • Provide lectures, consultations, and training on socio-economic issues
  • Participate in related meetings, seminars, and conferences in the country and overseas
  • Participate as a member and maintain relationships with other economic associations in the region and  the world.
